I don’t know why, it could be a girlfriend I had when I was 14 who had grown up in the States and recounted tales of wonder about the land of the free, perhaps it was my earlier encounters with 2LiveCrew painting a picture of a land where there was such a place as ‘The Fuck Shop’ and ‘Face Down Ass Up’ was the way they spent their recreational time – whichever but as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated by and in love with American culture, history, music and current affairs. Fast forward to now where I can consume more than my fair share of NPR, The New Yorker, LA Times and KCRW through podcasts, be up to date on the newest emerging bands from Brroklyn to Boston, all right from my Shoreditch living room. The one thing however that I can’t find in this Pigeon foresaken city is proper fried chicken, not some saturday night high st KCFC dirt chicken, but proper fried chicken with grits and gravy and greens and beans – this is my quest, my journey, my Modus Operandi.
